How the program debates

CLC’s speech and debate team combines competitive speaking with intercollegiate debate. In the 2025–26 season, the team placed third at a fall invitational and later competed at the 2026 Phi Rho Pi National Speech and Debate Tournament, where the college reports four national medals. One competitor earned gold in International Public Debate Association debate; CLC calls this the program’s first national gold medalist in debate. CLC’s public reports identify coach and Communications instructor Joel Chmara in November 2025.
