How the program debates

The University of Wyoming Speech and Debate Team, also known as Wyoming Debate, is a co-curricular program sponsored by Communication and Journalism and the College of Arts and Sciences. Undergraduates can join policy and College Public Forum teams that compete nationally, and the program hosts public debates, intercollegiate tournaments and workshops. Wyoming’s debate tradition dates to 1912. The official team page describes 15–20 intercollegiate tournaments each academic year and lists course credit and scholarships as participation support. At the completed October 2026 Weber State Debate Classic, Wyoming faced Utah in the open cross-examination debate division.
