How the program debates

Wichita State Debate builds affirmative and negative cases through policy research, regular practice and mock debates, with one-on-one coaching. The team welcomes students without prior debate experience and lets members choose their level of involvement. Its university page says national tournament travel is paid and scholarship opportunities may be available.

At the 2024 National Debate Tournament, Wichita State finished 12th in the preliminary standings and won its first elimination debate to reach the Sweet 16. Prospective debaters should contact Director Phillip Samuels for current schedules and team selection details.
