AI Debate Coach
Take on The Contrarian, an AI opponent that always shows up. Argue a full timed round, spoken or typed, and get a six-line /30 practice scorecard modeled on how live judges score, plus one focus to carry into your next session.
A Real Round, Any Time
The coach is live at superdebate.org/coach. Pick a resolution from the public pool (or type your own), choose your side, and debate The Contrarian through real phases: openings, rebuttals, closings, on a real turn clock. It argues the opposite side every time, at the strength you choose: Warm-up, Contender, or Champion.
Three session lengths fit the time you have: Quick Spar (about 3 minutes, two rounds on a blitz clock), Full Debate (about 10, the classic three-round format), and Deep Match (about 20, with longer turns and an opponent that ends rebuttals with a pointed cross-examination question).
Who this is for:
What You Get
- A six-line /30 practice scorecard: Argument Quality, Refutation, Delivery, Organization, Persuasiveness, Evidence & Research, with a note on each
- Your strongest moment flagged in the transcript, and one focus to work on that carries into your next session
- Spoken turns: argue out loud and your pace and filler words are measured on your device
- In-round coaching: phase-by-phase guidance on what to do right now (turn it off to fly solo)
- An adjustable format: turn clock from blitz to none, who opens, and read-aloud replies
- Training history saved to your account, with a resume banner if you close a debate mid-round
How It Works
Set Up Your Round
Pick a resolution (or write a private one), choose your side, session length, and opponent strength. Fine-tune the clock and opener if you want.
Debate
Argue through timed phases against The Contrarian. Type your turns or speak them with the mic. Phase guidance tells you what this moment calls for.
Get Scored
The coach fills in its six-line /30 practice scorecard, notes your strongest moment, and names the one thing to work on next.
Take It Live
Every session ends pointing at a real opponent. The rubric is built to mirror the skills live judges reward, so practice carries to debate night.
Spoken Practice
Argue out loud
Tap the mic and speak your turn: your words land in the draft as you talk, and typing takes over the moment you touch the keyboard.
Delivery, measured
Speaking pace and filler words are counted on your device and feed the Delivery line of your scorecard. Nothing you say is uploaded as audio.
Hear the other side
Turn on read-aloud and your device speaks The Contrarian's arguments and the final coaching. It's the closest thing to a live round without an audience.
Beyond a Single Round
One opponent gets predictable. The gym around the scorecard exists so practice keeps adapting once you have the basics.
- A roster of rival opponents, each arguing in a distinct style and voice
- Drills that target one skill instead of running a whole round
- Practice built from your own dropped arguments, so you rebut what you missed
- Multi-week programs that sequence sessions toward a goal
- Challenge a friend to the same motion, with scores revealed only after you both finish
- A map of how the clash actually went, showing which arguments went unanswered
